Silverlake is an AS/400/iSeries services company, that is what we do, that is what we are good at. We have a passion for this platform and an enthusiasm for helping our customers make full use of the system and all of its capabilities. In fact the company name comes from the AS/400. Silverlake was the code name used by IBM before they announced the system as the AS/400. Most of our consultants have worked on the platform since the system first started to ship in 1988 and some go back even further to the days of the System 38.


The iSeries remains one of the fastest developing servers in the market today. With new GUI interfaces and various operating systems that now run under the covers of the iSeries, our focus on staff development has enabled us to keep pace with new technologies and to embrace them as our own. This allows us to not only work with Linux, Windows and the soon to be available AIX on the iSeries, but to also better understand where they fit in the various heterogeneous environments that exist today.

As the iSeries and surrounding technologies have developed and progressed, access to applications and data has become a complex technology of its own, as has the output of such data. In order to provide complete support for the platform we extended our portfolio of services to include, Networking, PC clients, Web access and Printing. Providing our customers with an uncompromising service for all areas of their IT infrastructure.


We realised long ago that if we wanted to be successful in this market, we had to develop a services culture. It was not good enough to be technically excellent, although this is very important, being helpful, attentive, considerate, and courteous are things that we value just as much. Silverlake measures success not just on achieving the right results, but also on the manner in which we achieve them.


To help develop our services culture further and provide a consistent approach to all projects and tasks, we adopted the following policies early on:


In order to fully understand our customers objective WE START BY PAYING CAREFULL ATTENTION TO OUR CUSTOMERS NEEDS.. We validate our understanding of the project or task requirements and deliverables by communicating them back to the customer and asking them to confirm they are correct.


WE TAKE RESPOSIBILTY FOR ALL FACTORS THAT CONTIBUTE TO THE SUCCESS OF A PROJECT
. From our prospective, a failed project is a failed project whoever is responsible.


When planning or executing a project or task WE NEVER ASSUME, PRESUME OR USE THE TERM SHOULD. To us these words are synonymous with the praise "I do not know" and thus constitute a potential exposure to any project or task we undertake.


FIXED PRICE PROJECTS
. Where possible we prefer to work to a fixed price. This enables three things to happen, firstly, our customers know their costs, secondly, we become the project manager for whatever task or project we have undertaken to complete and thirdly it enables all parties concerned to focus on delivery of the solution, rather than X hours or days of consultancy.


We are a services company, our goal is to help iSeries customers realise the systems full potential and maximise their investment. We always remember, the customer sets the standard; our aim is always to exceed that standard.
