Silverlake :: PC / iSeries Terminals
Silverlake - Host Access Centre - PC / iSeries Terminals

Imagine a terminal where set-up involves simply entering three IP addresses: iSeries, Windows server and the terminal itself, and selecting whether each session is to connect to the iSeries or Windows server. This has taken less then 5 minutes, but you now have the confidence that the terminal will give you years of trouble free use and your users can access both iSeries and Windows environments at the stroke of a key.

This might sound too good to be true, but these products are available today. By combing RDP and 5250 Telnet in one product, terminals without Operating systems or software emulation packages, can now provide access to both.

RDP (remote desktop protocol) is a 'remote display' technology developed by Microsoft. It is used by most of today's thin client terminals that connect to a Microsoft server. RDP is a client/server technology where the applications (Word, Excel, Browser, etc) are run on a central Windows server and accessed by remote clients. As such, no data resides on the client, centralising all management and operational tasks.

As with all host access solutions, your infrastructure needs to be right. Your servers' need to be able to handle the additional workloads, your network however, is likely to experience a reduction in communications traffic. With only screen updates and key strokes being transmitted across your LAN or WAN you might find your existing network capacity is more then adequate for the new technology. Where you are likely to require a Network upgrade would be the backbone that connects your servers. However, as these servers are normally situated in the same room, expense is likely to be minimal.

Full printer support for both Windows and iSeries is also provided, as well as terminal emulation for 3270 and UNIX. Support is also provided for DHCP and DNS.

Silverlake will conduct a complete review of your existing infrastructure, and recommend any changes, enhancements, or upgrades for your consideration. We would then run a pilot project to evaluate the solution and upon achieving satisfactory results plan and execute the solution role out.
